Over the course of this year, Healthy Eating Research hosted a three-part webinar series designed to support public health researchers in maximizing the policy impact of their work. Our grantees are highly skilled in conducting policy-relevant research, and many have expressed that learning from experts about best practices for translating research into actionable change is invaluable. With that in mind, this series focused on the intersection of research and policy, providing practical guidance on how to conduct policy-relevant research, communicate findings effectively, and use digital platforms to amplify impact.
A few takeaways from the series:
- Speakers highlighted the importance of designing studies with policy impact in mind. Researchers should prioritize working with change agents to develop strategic research questions.
- It is critical to make your research accessible and share findings through different avenues, including via stakeholder meetings, with media, and through written products tailored for your audience.
- Effective communicators have an overarching goal in mind, understand their audience, and have a clear message.
- Choosing the right communications tactics or outlets for your goals and audience is important.
- Digital tools like LinkedIn can be used strategically to broaden your reach as well as foster networks.
